The uzi fly, Exorista bombycis (Louis), is an endoparasitoid of mulberry silkworm, Bombyx mori L. It causes about 10-15% damage to the sericulture crops in south India. A parasitoid is an insect whose larvae live as parasites which eventually kill its host.
The Uzi menace is at its peak during the rainy season (June to October). Uzi fly lays eggs which are firmly glued on the body of silkworms. The feeding stage (maggot) is completely concealed in the body of silkworm. Producers: Dr Rajendra Mundkur, Dr E. Muniraju and Dr. O.K. Remadevi.
